Before the victory of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini (RA) outlined his ideal and desirable state with characteristics that do not fully correspond to any of the modern political systems, including the republic, and even openly negates some of the characteristics of the republic. However, with the victory of the Islamic Revolution, he proposes the form and format of the republic to realize the content of the Islamic government. The aim of this article is to analyze the reasons for the emergence of the republic in the model of transcendental governance from the perspective of Imam Khomeini (RA). The main question is why he accepted the republican order as a form of Islamic government among various possibilities. This research is a theoretical and fundamental research and has been conducted with a descriptive-analytical approach. The research data has been prepared using a library-documentary method and by referring to the statements of Imam Khomeini (RA) and the documents of the Islamic Revolution, and has been analyzed and examined within the framework of the "internal logic of political theories" presented by Thomas Spriggans. The results show that the acceptance of republicanism in Imam Khomeini's (RA) model of transcendental governance was not due to some secondary titles or changes in his political thought, but rather based on realist components and by considering the objective and theoretical capabilities of the republican order, considering some limitations such as the lack of governance experience and the unavailability of a suitable model for realizing Islamic government, and paying attention to necessities such as the necessity of implementing Sharia and the priority of content over the form of government; therefore, in presenting the transcendental governance model, Imam Khomeini (RA) is neither a realist or a political pragmatist, nor a dreamy idealist; rather, considering the capabilities, possibilities, necessities, and priorities that are necessary for realistic theorizing, he has introduced the republican order as a possible dimension of transcendental governance.
