The quest to articulate an Islamic narrative and conceptualization of governance necessitates a rigorous re-examination and refinement of its foundational origins and premises. In this respect, the present research employing a text-oriented hermeneutical methodology to scrutinize the origins of governance. The study seeks to answer the question: through what processes does governance acquire salience within human society, and in moments of emergent need, how is this phenomenon addressed? To this end, the analysis refers to Allameh Tabatabai’s anthropological interpretation of the human being, as elaborated in his exegesis, Al-Mizan. Addressing this inquiry requires identifying the primary roots of conflict and discord in the early stages of human social existence and, from the perspective of the Holy Qur’an, elucidating how humanity is to safeguard its essential nature and transcend this predicament. The findings indicate that the primordial roots of such disputes can be traced to the inherently instrumental disposition of the human being a natural characteristic intrinsic to humanity’s role as the vicegerent of God. Furthermore, the principle capable of terminating such conflicts, through the establishment of foundational norms of human interaction, and which owing to its congruence with the element of truth possesses the requisite capacity for generating stability and fostering elevated, shared horizons commensurate with the ontological constitution of the human being within the framework of collective societal action, is identified as the Divine Shari’ah.
