Abstract

The purpose of this study is to conceptualize transcendent governance and to develop a comprehensive conceptual model grounded in Islamic religious teachings using the Trident Model. This research seeks to draw upon the theoretical foundations of Islam to propose a value-based and indigenous governance framework capable of addressing the contemporary challenges faced by governance systems in Islamic societies. This study is fundamental–applied in purpose and qualitative in nature. To achieve an in-depth understanding of the dimensions and components of transcendent governance based on Islamic teachings, a qualitative meta-synthesis approach was employed. Initially, a systematic search of relevant scientific literature on transcendent governance, organizational vitality and dynamism, and their contributing factors was conducted across reputable academic databases using a four-criterion protocol. Following screening and quality appraisal, 31 eligible studies were selected for final analysis. Simultaneously, research data were collected through documentary analysis, qualitative content analysis of religious texts -including the Holy Qur’an, authentic narrations, and primary Islamic sources - as well as the theoretical literature on governance. Subsequently, using qualitative content analysis and a conceptual analysis approach, the extracted components were organized and synthesized. In the final stage, the Trident Model was applied to classify the identified dimensions and factors into three categories -behavioral, structural, and contextual - and to present them in the form of an integrated conceptual model explaining Islamic transcendent governance. The findings indicate that transcendent governance grounded in Islamic teachings can be explained through three interrelated dimensions: structural-institutional, content-based (behavioral), and contextual-environmental. These dimensions encompass transparent and accountable mechanisms, ethical and value-driven behaviors of managers, and contextual foundations such as trust, legitimacy, and social capital. The results demonstrate that the coherent interaction of these three dimensions leads to vitality, dynamism, and the elevation of governance systems. Furthermore, model validation using expert judgment and Cohen’s Kappa coefficient confirms the scientific rigor and reliability of the proposed framework.
